backstory tenjirou kinjō, seventeen years of age, born to a single father in the city of naha in the okinawan prefecture of japan. though his mother was absent from his life, he never once questioned nor complained about the lack of one, he was content with the world he has however small it was—him and his father were very close in spite of the fact that he was busy and couldn't be there for him all the time, jirou would note that whenever his father wasn’t present that music would be his companion (along with his childhood dog, peko) as he grew up surrounded by it which ultimately cultivated his adoration for the medium.to jirou's earliest recollection on his childhood, he had always been able to hear spirits. although at the time he would assume he was merely hearing things and couldn't comprehend what was happening to him so much so that he became reclusive up until his preteens, he didn't want to trouble his father but the isolation he had given himself meant he had no one to talk to about what he was going through and it's not like they would understand anyways. all he knew was that the voices overwhelmed him, like hammers pounding against this brain over and over again—that the only way to drown out the noise was music.currently residing in metro manila as a first year college student, just until he finishes his studies, jirou was asked by his father to stay there in an attempt for his son to connect with his relatives in the philippines and so that jirou had people around to look after him while his father was away due to the nature of his profession.
family history goro kinjō, a known singer within japan and taiwan, jirou's father and only guardian. he chose to have jirou through a surrogate, it was unknown if the mystery woman was a lover as goro was as private as he could be with his personal life, it even came as a surprise to everyone that he desired to have a son. it was clear though that he loved jirou the most in the world, did his best to do good by his side and raise him well.unaware of his son's unique ability to perceive spirits through hearing them, he would also be just as unaware of his side of the family's history of being well-known exorcists in the past. the kinjō clan of okinawa, once revered for their strong ties to the spiritual realm—strong enough where they are able to interact with spirits and curses then exorcise them, however due to the increasing irrelevancy of mediums in the country as time went on the clan ultimately lost their importance and thereby lost the need to cultivate the powers of those who had it until their numbers dwindled.regardless of the fact that the clan was no longer a family of exorcists, the strong tether they share with spirits was enough for some descendants to still gain the same gifts that their ancestors had such as jirou's clairaudience but that also meant that spirits get easily drawn to them whether they're aware of it or not.
